Movement Medicine®

Movement as medicine, a balm for the soul, meditation in motion, on life as a human being on earth, often to music, moving with whatever is present.

I am currently teaching once a month at

The Old Stable Wellness Studio in Darley Abbey.

Classes are usually on the third Sunday of the month 10.30am to 12noon

All welcome!

Pilates Mat Classes

Joseph Pilates created a series of exercises that use fluid movements to gently work the whole body.  I teach Pilates based classes, using breath, self massage and gentle movement to release tightness and mobilise; then precise, guided exercises to strengthen and stretch, leaving body and mind feeling more calm, collected and aligned.

Pilates Studio Equipment

Private or semi-private classes in Darley Abbey, with up to 3 people at a time, each working to their individual needs and aims; supported and challenged by specially designed Pilates equipment.  This is more prescriptive than group mat-work; working at your own pace and taking your requirements into account, to give your body exactly what it needs, to work towards more balanced posture and fluid movement.

What I Love

Allotment and garden.   Growing my own food and creating beauty too.

Visiting other gardens to see how it's done, nature's own art gallery.

Art - in or out of galleries; installation, painting, sculpture, happenings, performance, I love to witness it all.

I even try my hand at drawing and painting and creating myself sometimes.

Crafts - I occasionally rag rug, sew, collage etc. I have tried all sorts over the decades. My studio days are over, but I did sell a few items made from recycled, reused and reclaimed materials.

Design - I used to paint and print on fabric and I still play with images for things like this site and other publicity for events.

I love well designed objects, beautiful function and form; clothing with interesting details; especially if they are recycled or sustainably sourced products.

Meditation - in movement or stillness, with music or chanting, singing or silent.  It helps me to stay centred, be more myself, know myself with more certainty.  It helps me to be more present, more calm; less reactive, less anxious.  Activity can be meditation too, like washing up, digging the garden, vacuuming the house...get stuff done, get fit and stay calm too!

Movies (and theatre), stories in motion, people pretending to be other people in an entertaining fashion.  Any language, any genre, as long as it's intriguing, informative or utterly remarkable.

Music - wide ranging but terribly particular.  No one genre, but my taste spans the world, from classical to folk to jazz to pop to rock; my cassette, vinyl, CD and now download collection spans the decades and the diversity this planet has to offer..  I can strum a guitar.  I can hold a tune, possibly even a harmony.  I used to be able to read music...hmmm. I have been known to make up songs too.

Words - I love to read books, on real paper whenever possible.

Learning new things, expanding my horizons without leaving my chair (or bed). Discovering new worlds and new ideas, whether real or imagined.  I also occasionally write poetry.  I'm very shy about it though.
